Snakke vs Babbel for Norwegian
Babbel is a well-structured beginner course, and its lessons are more logically sequenced than Duolingo's. The catch for Norwegian specifically is the ceiling: Babbel's Norwegian course caps around A2, and it does not grade writing or speaking or prepare you for the Norskprøve.
If your goal is to reach B2 and pass the exam, you will outgrow Babbel quickly. Snakke covers A1 to B2 across all four skills, grades your writing and speaking, and runs full mock exams. Babbel is a fine first course; Snakke is the tool that takes you the rest of the way.

What Babbel does well
Babbel is one of the better structured beginner apps. Its lessons build on each other in a sensible order, the grammar tips are clear, and it is a calm, no-nonsense way to get your first foothold in Norwegian. For an absolute beginner who wants a tidy path through the basics, it is a reasonable choice.
The ceiling for Norwegian
Babbel offers far fewer levels for smaller languages, and Norwegian is one of them. Its course tops out around A2, which is beginner to early-elementary. That is nowhere near B2, and it does not touch the productive skills the Norskprøve scores: there is no graded writing, no spoken-exam practice, and no mock tests.
So Babbel can get you started, but it cannot take you to the level that residence-plus careers, study and the exam actually require.
What Snakke adds
Snakke is built for the climb Babbel does not cover. It runs from A1 to B2 across reading, listening, writing and speaking, grades your production instantly on the B2 discriminators, simulates the oral exam, and gives you full timed mock exams with a readiness score per skill. If the Norskprøve is the goal, that is the gap that has to be filled.
Try it, do not just read about it.
Snakke trains and grades all four Norskprøve B2 skills. Free in your browser.
