I tried everything to learn Norwegian. Almost none of it worked.

Duolingo gave me the basics of Norwegian, and I am glad it exists. But it plateaued. I understood little bits, and I still could not actually use the language. That is the wall almost everyone hits, and no streak fixes it.

For two years I worked through the big Norwegian books, Stein på stein, Her på berget, and others like them. Honestly, I got nowhere. They are huge, slow, and they do not tell you whether what you are producing would actually pass anything.

I tried enrolling in Norwegian programs too. The cost was shocking, the locations were far from where I worked, and the schedule overlapped with my job. Like a lot of people who are funding their own learning, I just could not make it fit.
