Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data Snakke collects, why, and your rights. We aim to collect only what we need to run the Service and help you learn.

What we collect

• Account: your email and name, handled by our authentication provider (Clerk).
• Onboarding: first language, current Norwegian level, your goal, country, when you plan to take the test, how you found us, whether you consent to be contacted, and an optional phone number if you choose to share one.
• Learning progress: your vocabulary, lessons, exercises, streak, scores, and your chats with the AI tutor, so we can sync across devices and personalise your practice.
• Payments: processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your card details; we keep a subscription status and identifiers from Stripe.
• Privacy-friendly analytics: page views and basic events with a random per-tab id and coarse country, with no cookies.
• Google Analytics (optional): only if you accept analytics in the cookie banner. It is loaded with IP anonymization, and you can decline or withdraw at any time.

Why we use it

To provide and sync the Service, personalise the AI tutor to your level and goals, process your subscription, keep the Service secure, understand and improve usage, and, only if you opt in, to email you tips and invite you to the learner community.

Legal bases (GDPR)

Performance of our contract with you (running the Service and your subscription), your consent (optional marketing and community emails, which you can withdraw at any time), and our legitimate interests (security and improving the product).

Who we share it with

We use trusted processors to run Snakke: Clerk (authentication), Stripe (payments), our database and hosting providers (Neon and Vercel), an AI provider that powers the tutor and feedback, and, only with your consent, Google Analytics. They process data on our behalf under their own safeguards. We do not sell your data.

Retention

We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account or ask us to remove your data, we delete or anonymise it, except where we must keep limited records (for example, payment records) to meet legal obligations.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export, or delete your data, and object to or restrict certain processing. You can opt out of marketing at any time. To exercise any of these, contact us at the address below. You also have the right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).

Cookies

We use essential cookies needed to keep you signed in (set by Clerk). Our own analytics use a random per-session id rather than a tracking cookie. If you accept analytics in the cookie banner, Google Analytics sets its own cookies (with IP anonymization); you can decline, and nothing non-essential loads until you opt in. We do not use advertising cookies.
