Norskprøve muntlig questions: 40 questions to practise for the oral test

The oral Norskprøve is a conversation about familiar topics: you, your work, your home, your free time, and your opinions. You cannot know the exact questions in advance, but the topics repeat. These 40 questions cover them.

Permanent residence needs A2 on the oral test and citizenship needs B1. The questions are similar. What changes is how much you say: A2 answers describe, B1 answers explain and compare.

Om deg selv (about you)

Almost every oral test starts here. Have a calm, ready answer.

  • Kan du presentere deg selv? (Can you introduce yourself?)
  • Hvor kommer du fra? (Where are you from?)
  • Hvorfor flyttet du til Norge? (Why did you move to Norway?)
  • Hvor lenge har du bodd i Norge? (How long have you lived in Norway?)
  • Hvilke språk snakker du? (Which languages do you speak?)
  • Hvordan lærte du norsk? (How did you learn Norwegian?)
(What was hard when you came to Norway?)
  • Hva savner du fra hjemlandet ditt? (What do you miss from your home country?)

Jobb og utdanning (work and education)

Expect at least one question about what you do.

  • Hva jobber du med? (What do you work with?)
  • Hva liker du best med jobben din? (What do you like best about your job?)
  • Hvordan kommer du deg til jobben? (How do you get to work?)
  • Hva utdannet du deg som? (What did you train as?)
(How is working in Norway different from your home country?)
  • Hva er en god sjef, synes du? (What makes a good boss, in your opinion?)
  • Vil du jobbe med noe annet i fremtiden? (Would you like to do something else in the future?)
(Do you think working from home is good?)

Bolig og hverdag (home and daily life)

Simple questions, but good for showing past and future tense.

(Where do you live, and what is it like?)
  • Beskriv leiligheten eller huset ditt. (Describe your flat or house.)
  • Hva gjør du på en vanlig dag? (What do you do on an ordinary day?)
  • Hva gjorde du i helgen? (What did you do at the weekend?)
  • Hva skal du gjøre i sommerferien? (What will you do in the summer holiday?)
Hvorfor? (City or countryside? Why?)
  • Hvordan handler du mat? (How do you shop for food?)
  • Hva lager du til middag? (What do you make for dinner?)

Fritid og helse (free time and health)

Good topics for giving reasons, which is what B1 needs.

  • Hva liker du å gjøre på fritiden? (What do you like doing in your free time?)
  • Trener du? Hvorfor, eller hvorfor ikke? (Do you exercise? Why or why not?)
  • Liker du å gå på tur i naturen? (Do you like hiking in nature?)
  • Hva gjør du for å holde deg frisk? (What do you do to stay healthy?)
  • Hvordan feirer du høytider? (How do you celebrate holidays?)
  • Hva gjorde du på 17. mai? (What did you do on 17 May?)
  • Hvilken årstid liker du best? (Which season do you like best?)
  • Leser du bøker eller ser du serier? (Do you read books or watch series?)

Meninger og samfunn (opinions and society, mostly B1)

These invite you to give a view, a reason and an example. Use them to show B1.

(Pros and cons of living in Norway?)
Hvorfor? (Is it important to learn Norwegian? Why?)
  • Bør barn ha mobiltelefon på skolen? (Should children have phones at school?)
(What do you think of public transport where you live?)
  • Hvordan kan man få venner i Norge? (How can you make friends in Norway?)
(Online or in-store shopping?)
  • Hva er viktig for å ha et godt liv? (What matters for a good life?)
  • Hvordan er norsk kultur annerledes enn kulturen i hjemlandet ditt? (How does Norwegian culture differ from yours?)

From an A2 answer to a B1 answer

Take the question 'Hva liker du å gjøre på fritiden?'

A2: 'Jeg liker å gå på tur. Jeg går på tur i helgen.' Clear and correct, it describes.

It gives a reason, compares then and now, and adds a contrast.

  • Answer the question in one sentence.
  • Add a reason with fordi or derfor.
  • Add an example or a comparison (for eksempel, før, nå).
  • Add a contrast with men or selv om, if it fits.

How to practise these questions

Pick five questions a day and answer each out loud for one to two minutes. Record yourself and listen back for one thing to fix. Reading answers silently does not train speaking.

You also need practice reacting to follow-up questions, which a list cannot give you. Snakke's AI tutor asks you questions like these in Norwegian, follows up on what you say and corrects your mistakes as you go.

Try a free practice question

Which answer to 'Hvorfor flyttet du til Norge?' sounds most like B1?

Show the answer

It answers the question, gives a reason with 'fordi' and adds a contrast with 'men'. That combination is what examiners look for at B1.
