Norskprøve B2 writing: the tasks and how it is graded
Writing is where a lot of otherwise strong learners lose B2, not because their Norwegian is weak, but because they do not write what the task asks in the form it expects. Here is how the B2 writing part actually works.
The B2 writing tasks
At B2 you write a coherent text on a given topic. The task types include formal letters or emails, opinion pieces where you argue a view, and descriptions of a graph or simple statistics. Each comes with a topic and an expected length, and part of the skill is hitting the right register for the situation.
How writing is graded
You are rewarded for writing as much as you can while keeping it as correct as you can. Graders look at structure (clear paragraphs and connectors), accuracy (word order, verb forms, definiteness, agreement), range (varied vocabulary and sentence types), and register (formal where the task is formal). A short, error-light note will not reach B2, and nor will a long, messy one.
A simple structure that scores
Plan two minutes, then write a short introduction that states your point, two or three body paragraphs that develop it with reasons and examples and clear connectors, and a brief conclusion. This scaffolding alone lifts a lot of scores, because it shows the control the level is testing for.
